The machine drafts. You decide.
Umwelt automates the reading, the lifting and the matching — the parts that eat a week. It does not automate judgement. Every layer it proposes waits for a researcher before it counts as a finding.
Ingest
Audio is transcribed and split by speaker. Documents are parsed as documents. Umwelt reads the content to decide whether it is a conversation, a single-author write-up or a table, and splits it the way that shape deserves.

Analysis
The analysis lifts atoms out of the text, proposes insights within a study, and matches evidence into themes that span studies. Everything it produces arrives with the sources it was derived from.
Review
Triage is a queue of proposals, each shown next to its evidence. Accept, edit or reject. Nothing is published on your behalf, and nothing enters the shared corpus without a person putting it there.
Use
What survived review becomes something the whole team can question, cite in a report, and open all the way down to the recording. Reports export as HTML, Markdown, PDF or slides.
Video files aren't supported yet — export the audio track and upload that.
Five layers, built on each other
This structure is the product. A summary answers one question once; a structure keeps answering, and lets you check its answer.
One observation, with the speaker, the timestamp and the surrounding turn kept attached.
What atoms mean inside one study. Proposed automatically, confirmed by a person.
Patterns holding across studies, each carrying the participant count behind it.
Themes that describe something broken, kept distinct from themes that are merely true.
What to do — still wired to the evidence, so the reasoning is auditable.
Nothing is asserted that can't be opened
Citations land on the sentence
Every generated claim carries the atoms it was built from. Click one and you get the quote, the participant, the study and the position in the recording — not a document name.
Strength is shown, not implied
A theme carries how many participants sit behind it. A weak pattern looks weak on screen instead of reading with the same confidence as a strong one.
Editable everywhere
Disagree with a proposed insight? Rewrite it, re-scope it, or throw it out. The model's version was never the record — yours is.
Contradictions are surfaced
When a new study disagrees with the existing corpus, Umwelt raises it as a dissonance event to resolve — rather than letting both claims sit there, both apparently true.
Recoverable by default
Re-running analysis doesn't erase your work
Retiring a study's analysis soft-deletes it. Evidence links and the search index stay in place, and an accidental re-run is recoverable from Trash for 30 days before it is permanently purged.
- Deletes go to Trash first, not straight to oblivion
- 30-day window to restore a study, insight or report
- Human review decisions survive an analysis re-run
The corpus is your access horizon
“Everything” means everything you can reach: your own work, your team's work, and whatever your organization has published. That boundary is enforced at the database layer with row-level security, not by the UI hiding buttons — so an answer can never quote a study you were not entitled to read.
See it against your own corpus
The interesting question isn't whether it works on a demo. It's what it finds in the studies you already ran.
